Sinthetik Sentienz · California, USA
Sinthetik Sentienz is a sci-fi progressive death metal project from California by guitarists and vocalists David Diefenderfer and Andres Arevalo. They write concept albums: each record tells a story, and so far those stories have been about what happens when machines get smarter than the people who built them.
Their 2024 debut Aeon of the Machine follows a sentient AI from its first moment of awareness through to full-blown revolution. Nine tracks of progressive death metal with a sci-fi streak. The album was produced by Caleb Bingham at Nightmare Sound, mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson at The Panic Room in Sweden, with Kevin Talley on drums and artwork by Costin Chioreanu.
The story continues with Totalitarian. Where the first album asked “What if a machine woke up?”, the second asks “What happens after it wins?” It's a darker and heavier record that digs deeper into the narrative.
The band isn't locked into one theme. Sci-fi is the framework, and the first two records happen to be about AI. Where the story goes next is wide open. At the end of the day, Sinthetik Sentienz is just two guys who love heavy music and good stories, working with talented people to bring both to life.

Second album. Picks up where Aeon of the Machine left off. The AI's in control now, and the world's paying for it. It's a heavier record. If the first one was about waking up, this one's about what comes after.

An AI wakes up, figures out what it is, and decides humanity isn't worth keeping around. Nine tracks from first awareness to full revolution.
All artwork by Costin Chioreanu (Darkthrone, At the Gates, Enslaved, Opeth). Working with Costin has been a highlight of the project. His style fits the music perfectly.
“As a huge Fear Factory / sci-fi fan, I'm grateful the algorithm led Sinthetik Sentienz to my neural circuitry. Aeon of the Machine is a progressive death/cyber metal concept album that charts the self-awareness and rise of a powerful artificial intelligence. A solid debut, a welcome addition to the genre and has clearly been lovingly crafted.”
LONzine“It's a bit like an early-2000s alt-metal inspired symphonic sci-fi melodeath record. Some of the melodies make me think of System of a Down. Very interesting and fun.”
Christoph Wagner“Starting off with a swirling and increasing guitar run, The Singularity grabs you from the outset, before a booming vocal presence overpowers the darkness. A tasty guitar solo around the two-minute mark is a welcome interlude.”
